A SAM2 is a vehicle activated sign that can display and record the the speed of a vehicle.  It does not record the vehicle's VRM.  In a 30mph zone, depending on the model, it will display the speed of the vehicle approaching the sign from 27mph up to 40mph. Between 31mph and 40mph the SLOW DOWN message will also pop up.  Above 40mph the sign will just display SLOW DOWN. The original SAM2 was purchased in 2017 with Coltishall Parish Council and was shared across both Parishes.  In 2020 it was upgraded to Bluetooth connectivity, this made it a lot easier to take the data off for processing. Late 2022, Coltishall Parish Council purchased, via grant funding, a second SAM2, and they very generously donated their 50% share in the original kit to Horstead.​

There are four locations where the SAM2 can be deployed.  Each location was surveyed by and were agreed with Norfolk County Council Highways and a Memorandum of Understanding was signed.​​
